Volunteering

What do volunteers do?

It would be easier to say what our volunteers don't do! There are so many skills required. We do need strong backs and willing workers as we undertake the vast majority of the maintenance work in the park. So, there is digging, sweeping, pruning, sawing, stone work, drain clearing to name just a few. Just as importantly there is a need for horticultural knowledge, wildlife management, gardening skills, first aid, the list is endless.

What if I can't or don't like physical work?

No problem. We need organizers and project management skills are of great use. As are designers, graphic artists, computer skills, craft skills, photographers...you name it we could probably do with the help.

But I like being in the background but still want to help!

Indeed you can. We also need people who can attend events, help people find their way around, make things like bunting, hand out fliers, pack goods for sale, make cakes and buns and help to put up marquees and gazebos for special events.

OK, so when do you do all of these things?

Most of the physical work takes place on Wednesday and Saturday mornings between around 9 and 12.30 BUT all of the other work continues at all other times. So, if you want to help but can't make the work sessions do not despair! Planning and organizing is ongoing and event activities can be on any day, evening or time. You can give as much or as little time as you like. You don't have to attend every work session unless you want to and there is no long term commitment, unless you wish to give it. Flexibility is the name of the game and you can put in just as much as you want to.

It all sounds interesting but why should I volunteer to work in the Prince of Wales Park?

If you are interested in "getting stuck in" you will be participating in the best outdoor gym you could wish for...with no gym membership fees to pay! The sessions are all outdoors so you will get lots of fresh air and meet like minded people who really care about the park but also enjoy each others company.

If you can't or prefer not to do the physical side you will have the chance to keep your mind active, try or learn new skills and meet a great group of individuals. We believe we offer the most diverse activities anyone could want, but importantly all with a laugh and a smile.
